Swish
Swish, swoosh, splosh!
Welcome to the Ocean! Come and join the fun with Dotty, Blue and Olive on the reef – and help them watch out for the strange orange Tangle and other mysterious things that keep appearing in the ocean. Featuring puppetry, Makaton and plenty of audience interaction, Swish is a playful multisensory exploration of life underwater and the positive ways in which we can reduce plastic in the ocean. Swish is suitable for complex needs audiences and groups. If you would like to be sent the Tour Pack for Swish, please email [email protected]

We were very grateful to have been granted Arts Council England funding to make Swish in a R&D process, including three audience development performances and a pilot tour. Here is where we toured Swish to in 2019:
Discover Children's Story Centre, Poplar Union, Blue Elephant Theatre, The Cockpit Theatre, Southampton City Art Gallery, a leading NHS hospital, Clapham Library and Streatham library. |

Meet some of the characters in Swish...
Blue
This is Blue! We have based the character of Blue on a Bluespotted Ribbontail Ray. This species of ray can be found living on coral reefs and typically hides itself in the sandy sea bed, sometimes with just their eyes showing! |
Olive
We have based the character of Olive on an Olive Ridley Turtle. Ghost nets, which are what abandoned fishing nets are called, make up 46% of all the plastic in the oceans. These ghost nets are a real threat to turtles who can become tangled in them, causing injury. |
Dotty
We have based the character of Dotty on a Whitespotted Surgeonfish. The small white spots on a surgeonfish mimic bubbles in the sea, creating a camouflage for the fish against predators. |
To learn more about plastic in the ocean and turtles, we have been working with Dr Claire Petros, lead veterinarian on the Olive Ridley Project, based in the Maldives. You can find out more about their rescue, conservation and research here: https://oliveridleyproject.org/
We have also been working with the RNLI's Youth Education team, to learn about their Respect the Water campaign. At each of our shows we will be giving out Water Smart leaflets, but you can also find out more information here: https://rnli.org/youth-education

We could not have made Swish without the expertise and brilliance of these people - a HUGE thank you to all of you!
